Day 2 – Grenfell to Hay, Riding4aCause Mishap

Day 2 was awesome riding!!! We left Grenfell about 9am after having a local country breakfast and were on our way to Hay which is approximately 360km of riding in one day with our first stop in West Wylong for a refuel stop, then another 147kms to Goolgowi and finally the 108kms to Hay.

When leaving Grenfell, we had a mixed bag of weather, some rain, and even possibly hail. But mostly it was sunshine with spotty clouds.

The most stunning ride was when we left Gollgowi on our last stretch to Hay. Big wide open fields, that were totally flat for as far as the eye can see. We were in prime Wheat country and Canola was flouring. If you have never seen canola flower, it is stunning. Its a small yellow flower that grows at the top of the stem, and when there is acres of crop planted it is a stunning ocean of yellow! With the broken clouds and sun shining through, and an electrical storm in the distance with small cracks of lightning, it was an amazingly picturesque scene, typical of Australian country.

At this point I decided that it would be great to pull over and take some photos of the backdrop as the riders came past. I saw @nathe had pulled over, so I started to pull in behind him. As I pulled off the road on what seemed to be a dry patch of dirt (but was actually mud), my front wheel sunk into the mud about 10cm which made the front wheel come to a sudden and complete stop as my back wheel spun around and threw me off the bike, and the bike on top of me.

I was down and pinned under the weight of a 300kg+ bike. A pinned leg and bruised ego, needless to say, I was pissed off. Thankfully @nathe was near by and could help me up (not before pulling off a snap from his camera :-) ), and the other riders come up behind soon and there was a roadside scene that was not deserving of the accident.

Bottom line is I am fine, the bike is dirty and a little scared. I will need to do some work on my bike when I get back, but all is good to keep going. Hopefully Day 3 won't be so eventful for me!!!
